Four Roses Bourbon
The Four Roses Distillery is located at 1224 Bonds Mill Rd, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342, USA and is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey brand currently owned by the Kirin Brewery Company of Japan. The name ‘Four Roses’ dates back to 1888 when Paul Jones Jr trademarked the name after moving his thriving business to Louisville, Kentucky, where he opened an office in a section of historic Main Street called, Whiskey Row and then in 1922, the Paul Jones Company purchased the Frankfort Distilling Company. Then in 1943, Seagram purchased the Frankfort Distilling Co. primarily to acquire the most noted and recognized name in the business at that time – Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon and immediately discontinued it in the US choosing to only sell it in the growing European and Asian markets.
It would be another 61 years until Four Roses Bourbon would be sold in the United States thanks to the tireless work of Jim Rutledge who joined Seagram as a young man and went on to become one of the world’s most legendary Master Distillers. In 2004 under new owners (the Kirin Brewing Company) Four Roses Bourbon resumed selling in America and quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest names in the Bourbon world.
In August 2015, Jim Rutledge retired as Master Distiller and Brent Elliott, who worked alongside Jim for 10 years, became the company’s new Master Distiller.
