Michter's
Michter’s is located at 2351 New Millennium Dr, Louisville, KY 40216, USA, but its history dates back to Pennsylvania in the mid 1700’s
Bomberger’s Distillery, more recently Michter’s Distillery, is said to be the first distillery established in the United States. The complex, located near Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, exemplified the revolution of whiskey distilling from an agricultural operation into a large-scale industry. The surviving jug house, warehouse and still houses date back to the 1840’s but the site has a documented history of spirit production since 1753. The facility was America’s smallest commercial distiller at the time of its 1989 closure.
Michter’s have also recently launched two new labels; Bomberger’s Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and, Shenk’s Small Batch Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey. Both names are steeped in Michter’s history with John and Michael Shenk founding the distillery in 1753 where they began distilling rye whiskey at the original site in Pennsylvania, and Abraham Bomberger who purchased the distillery in circa. 1860 that would ultimately become Michter’s.
