William Larue Weller Kentucky Straight Bourbon/Whiskey
William Larue Weller Kentucky Straight Bourbon/Whiskey is an extremely successful brand of wheated whiskey distilled and distributed by the Buffalo Trace Distillery as part of their super rare ‘Antique Collection’ in Frankfort, Kentucky USA. The brand was originally owned by the Stitzel-Weller Distilling Company, which was sold several times after 1972 and is currently owned by the Sazerac Company. Like all bourbons, W L. Weller is distilled from a mash composed of at least 51% corn whereas the secondary grain used for the production is wheat and not rye like most bourbons.
The bottling was named after William Larue Weller (1825–1899), who was a bourbon whiskey distiller in the early days of Kentucky and supposedly the first to produce straight bourbon using wheat instead of rye in the mash bill.
