Backwoods Distilling Co. was established in 2017 by husband-and-wife team, Leigh and Bree Atwood in the picturesque town of Yackandandah in the Victorian High-Country region of Australia. Working from their property, they handcraft whisky and spirits in small batches using local ingredients, spring water and a diverse selection of reclaimed barrels.

The team quickly outgrew their distillery shed, so in early 2021, Backwoods relocated to a new site at Yack Station Precinct, 6 Turntable Lane, Yackandandah and opened their doors to reveal a working distillery with facilities to host visitors for tastings and generate sales at their spacious cellar door.

Today, Brea and Leigh have well and truly stamped their name within our industry, releasing multi-award-winning single malt and rye whiskies. Named Category Winners in the 2024 World Whisky Awards, the team have achieved so much since 2017 and as members of their successful Founders club, we’ve enjoyed watching them grow and grow whilst we play our small part in putting their whisky on lips.
