The Derwent Distilling Co. is a small family owned business set up by Robbie and Emma Gilligan on the banks of the Derwent River, in Dromedary Tasmania. Robbie hails from Glasgow, Scotland and Emma is a home-grown Tasmania. They chose the name ‘Derwent Distillery’ in tribute to one of the first legalised distilleries in Tasmania, originally set up on the banks of the Hobart Rivulet in South Hobart. Unfortunately, the distillery was never given the time to shine and in 1838 their doors shut. Emma and Robbie have chosen to resurrect the name and create a blend of old and new, suitably distilling on an acreage which sits on the banks of the River Derwent.
Robbie and Emma have been laying down a special selection of rare and unique, one off casks since 2016. Robbie distilled the spirit at Old Kempton Distillery and now they have over 40 barrels maturing which will be released over the next few years.
