The Highwayman brand is owned by Dan Woolley, who has spent the majority of his adult life immersed in whisky. He’s worked the four corners of the whisky world as a bar owner, brand ambassador and specialist, from Australia to Japan and the USA to Scotland (predominantly Islay). He’s trained droves or bartenders along the way earning himself a cult following of whisky enthusiasts for his expertise and style. Prior to launching Highwayman, Dan was the brand ambassador for Beam Suntory representing names like Yamazaki, Bowmore, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Auchentoshan and of course his beloved Laphroaig.
In 2019, his years as a Brand Ambassador came to end so he could concentrate on ‘Highwayman’, a brand he calls his life – ‘Highwayman’ whisky showcases a range of small-batch, independent bottlings: He says “From all around our great country of Australia, spirit has made its way on the highway to Byron Bay to age in the rarest, hand selected oak casks to mature into Highwayman single malt whisky”
There have been 9 expression released so far in 2020 with many selling out in minutes. They’re big and bold whiskies with varying taste profiles ranging from the experimental to the rich and complex. Keep an eye out for them as they rarely make it to retail, thus is the popularity of the man and his whisky.
