Situated in the south of Tasmania is the Old Hobart Distillery, home of Overeem Whisky, nestled among the trees of the Overeem family home that producer’s their premium, award-winning Single Malt Whisky. Overeem whisky is made from the finest ingredients Tasmania has to offer with barley to rival the best in the world and water recognised as the cleanest. Headed by Casey Overeem, it began as a family-owned and operated business. Casey obtained his distiller’s licence in 2005 with production starting in 2007.

Casey got a taste for distilling in the early 1980’s after visiting a relative in Norway who had a micro-distillery in his cellar. This followed years of his own research and experimentation and the realisation that Tasmania was the perfect place to make single malt whisky. His love of the craft evolved into the Old Hobart Distillery we now know today, with a little help from a trip to Scotland where he visited over 15 distilleries to get a better understanding of the distilling process. All Overeem Single Malt Whisky is matured in large format French or American Oak casks with the majority been ex sherry and port, and matured for a minimum of 5 years. Throughout the maturation process, casks are closely monitored and tested to ensure that the product is decanted at the optimum level of maturity. Each whisky is bottled as single cask and individually numbered to identify the exact cask and bottle.

Today, Jane Overeem and her husband Mark continue Casey’s legacy, following the practices and principles on which Overeem Distillery was founded. They continue to grow the brand’s popularity both nationally and internationally whilst remaining true to Casey’s original ambition.
