In 2009, David Vitale, founder of Starward whisky and the New World Whisky Distillery started off with a simple vision, to create a whisky showcasing pure Australiana that can be appreciated the world over. Born and bred in Melbourne, he was inspired by his home town culture and the famed ‘four seasons in one day’ Melbourne weather to conceive a spirit uniquely Australian taking advantage of all the ingredients for a modern-day whisky that were sourced locally.

The result is Starward! A pure Aussie whisky aged for 3 or more years in Australian sourced wine barrels drawing on the vibrancy of big bold reds like Shiraz and Cabernet, as well as delicate notes in Pinot and Rosé from around the region that pushes the envelope of whisky making. The barley is locally grown, and the spirit is double distilled in traditional copper pot stills.

STARWARD has already left its mark on the palate of whisky enthusiasts around the world in such a short amount of time and the future is bright as the distillery forges ahead, “to infinity and beyond” with the financial backing of Diageo, a British multinational beverage alcohol company.
