Straight Batt is an independent bottling that was the brainchild of Harry van der Woude, who boldly visited the Nant distillery with his father a few years before the unforgiveable ‘Nant investor scheme rip-off’ and left with his two full barrels of partly-ageing spirit that he rightly owned and invested in. He aged these two barrels (French oak ex-tawny and American oak ex-bourbon) for a further six years, married them together with the help of family and industry friends, and then released Straight Batt, Tasmanian single malt whisky. An expression that yielded 400 bottles at 44% ABV.

The name “Straight Batt” is a cheeky reminder to “always play life with a Straight Batt”. The label features a cricketer playing a hook shot, instead of the Straight Bat(t) shot to a ball that bowled him, which is a quiet dig (surname and all) to a previous distillery owner who should have been straight with his investors.
