Since 2017, Japan’s Kanosuke Distillery has won the hearts and minds of many whisky enthusiasts at home and abroad, producing incredible whisky that resonates with aficionados. The distillery is located in Kagoshima Prefecture along the Fukiagehama beach (the longest sand beach in Japan). It was established by the Komasa Jyozo company, which has a long history of making shochu (a Japanese spirit) with the distillery beginning operations in 2017 under the watchful eye of president and master distiller, Yoshitsugu Komasa. The coastal weather of the East China Sea, gives Kanosuke whisky a unique maritime environment that influences whisky maturation.
The distillery comments:
“One of the biggest advantages of our distillery is that we have three pot-stills instead of two. Each of the three pot-stills have different neck shapes and lyne arm angle. Both by using different pot-stills for redistillation and by blending new make spirits from different stills, we can offer whisky of richer flavours and aromas. Their first single malt whisky was released in 2021”.
