Cragganmore is a scotch whisky distillery situated in Banffshire, Scotland and was founded in 1869 by John Smith on land leased from Sir George Macpherson-Grant. The area was chosen for its proximity to the waters of the Craggan burn and was the first distillery to take advantage of the Strathspey Railway system for transportation which gave it an edge over other secluded distilleries.
Cragganmore or “Craggan Mor’ meaning ‘big rock’ in Gaelic takes its rock face of a name from the mountain in whose shadow it sits. Owned by Diageo, it’s known as the most complex aroma in Speyside. The distillery has a cult following with whisky enthusiasts around the world and for good reason as supply can never keep up with demand as most expressions barely make it to the shelf before been sold out.
