Set amid the rolling fields of barley just 20 miles from the heart of Edinburgh in the Scottish Lowlands, the Glenkinchie distillery was founded around 1825 by John and George Rate. Originally called the Milton Distillery before been renamed Glenkinchie in 1837, it’s one of 6 distilleries in the Lowlands and is owned by drinks giant Diageo.
The distillery faded into relative obscurity for more than 150 years before becoming an international success overnight at the end of the 1980’s when United Distillers started marketing the whisky under their classic malt brand.
