The Glencadam distillery was founded in 1825, just one year after distilling on a large scale was legalised in Scotland and the distillery continues to produce its rather exceptional single malt scotch in the same fashion it did in 1825.
It sits about half a mile outside the ancient city and former Royal Burgh of Brechin in the kingdom of Angus in the eastern Highlands of Scotland. The official supply of water for distilling depends on Glencadam’s long-held rights to springs about half a mile away in the Unthank Hills.
Glencadam is steadily paving the road for its core range since Angus Dundee bought the distillery in 2003 delivering a top-quality line of single malt whisky. The entire Glencadam single malt scotch whisky range is bottled at 46%, is not chill-filtered and free from added colouring. This way, the whisky’s instinctive characteristics are maintained and the aromatic components are preserved to heighten both body and flavour. The range is largely underrated as consumers are often drawn to the larger distilleries and the more ‘chic’ bottle designs but don’t be fooled, this distillery punches well above its weight and delivers stunning single malts.
