Bottling Notes

A bourbon whiskey bottled at 20-years-old is a rarity and an exceptional achievement, because extra special attention must be paid to the barrels as they can fall off the ‘tannic cliff’ (for lack of a better two words), and become spoiled if over aged.

At Michter’s, they consider 17 to 20 years the “Fork in the Road point” when certain barrels of whiskey can achieve an extraordinary level of quality. It’s these particular barrels that Master Distiller Dan McKee personally selects for their very limited bottling of Michter’s 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

The creators at Michter’s explain:
“We have a protocol whereby our Master Distiller Dan McKee and I taste our most mature lots of whiskey more frequently to determine peak quality,” stated Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. “By paying such careful attention to maturation, we wind up with 20 year plus barrels that can be really special and complex without being overly woody,” added Master Distiller Dan McKee.
