Description
WhistlePig’s biggest, boldest annual whiskey release is taking some inspiration from the ladies.
It’s single barrel rye whiskey, bottled at proof, powerfully complex and distinctly unique from anything WhistlePig have ever done!
The Boss Hog IX: Siren’s Song is inspired by Greek sirens, the daughters of the muses. The liquid is aged in American oak, and then finished for a week in Greek fig nectar and then an additional week in barrels suffused with Tentura, a Greek liqueur born in the Peloponnesian city of Patras. (Having family there, we’ve visited Patras many times over the decades having some very, very memorable nights imbibing in this elixir between Ouzo shots under the Mediterranean, evening sun). 😉
These nine Muses; Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania grace each bottle in the form of a bespoke pewter topper, with the full set randomly distributed on bottles throughout Australia. These bottles will no doubt be a collectors dream and if you have the tenacity to collect all 9 unique pewters – more power to you.
Our release is a tribute to Greek Siren; Polyhymnia
Liz Rhoades, the head of whiskey development at WhistlePig.
“The all-female whiskey making team went to Greece this past summer to source ingredients and learn from experts at a Tentura distillery”
“This is the most creative Boss Hog ever, and the first time the Boss Hog has been aged in a non-alcoholic barrel finish,” said Meghan Ireland, Head Blender at WhistlePig, referencing the use of fig nectar. “It’s the most fun project I get to work on all year, and there’s no limit to what we can do with these creatively.
Note that the Siren’ Song is bottled between 102.3 and 106.2 proof due to the single barrel nature of the expression. This expression
