Our tasting notes.
The standard Weller Special Reserve is one of our favourite sipping, wheated whiskies and this 12-year-old simply builds on its stellar little brother. It’s brooding yet laid-back at 45% ABV, with oodles of layers, taking cinnamon spice, buttered barbequed corn and digestive biscuits to another level. Waves of oak soar effortlessly through a cauldron of almond milk and vanilla custard with a late twist of honey sweetness on the back palate. The finish is sweet and tempered with a distant lick of pepper spice.
Final Thoughts
In a time where it’s often Cask Strength or bust, this little piece of bourbon magic weaves wonders at 45% ABV – A timely reminder that stronger isn’t always better. Let us know what you think!
