Bakery Hill Peated Malt Single Malt Whisky is a soft, smoky and balanced whisky with hints of Christmas fruit cake and old spice.
Jim Murray’s Tasting Notes
Score 93/100
- NOSE: Heavyweight stuff fruity and phenolic, a few spices march around.
- TASTE: Those spices come up trumps on delivery, a huge arrival with a big soft juicy backdrop acting as a start contrast. The smoke resurfaces gingerly.
- FINISH: Elegant fade with the fruit having been vanquished by the vanilla, spices and soft smoke.
- Conclusion: I remember when Talisker had this kind of spice attack. Virtually every phase of this malt works fabulously, a truly wonderful piece of distilling and maturation.
Producer’s tasting notes
- NOSE: A subdued peat aroma combined with a natural leather and overtones of kumquat and fruit mince tart. Sweet, but not overly so.
- PALATE: The palette reveals a tobacco leaf earthiness with layer upon layer of complex smoke intermingling with toffee and honeycomb. Lingers on the lips and palate, demanding just one more sip.
- FINISH: Astonishingly long and complex, an exotic mix of experiences.
