Tasting Notes from the 2024 Whisky Bible.
“Ok… no one warned me for this. Certainty, their last bottlings didn’t. But this is near perfect delivery. Rye richness levels peak at 100% and stay the course. Despite Healthy tannins it remains crisp and refreshing, as it should be, and there is evidence of a little mint… as there should be. Fabulous mouthfeel with oil clinging to the roof of my mouth amplifying the faux fruitiness of the grain. The salivation levels remain attractively high with spices now aiding the sharper grains, the satisfaction levels on another scale entirely…; long – implausibly long – thanks to those oils with immeasurable stands of rye meeting an acidic blood orange note, and then met with a hint of cocoa (of course!).
The spices remain controlled throughout and even now appear to only show alongside the still fragile and brittle remnants of the now oak-rattled grain…; hell’s teeth! The flavors…!!! No-one is equipped with enough taste buds to full take this one on. Easily the very best rye whisky I have ever tasted from outside North America. Simply mind-blowingly majestic and fearsomely favorable. There are well-known distilleries in Kentucky who can’t get their rye quite this pure, intense and punchy. And here’s the rub: the pre-bottled sample I was sent – free from the heavier tannins – was even better still. I am blown away”
