After the quick-fire releases of Craft Works Distillery’s previous three independent bottlings, Craig ‘Crafty’ Field decided that Blue Zero One would be a more ‘laid back’ release, and what a special dram it is. If you want some insight into what the Craft Works first single malt whisky profile will be, Blue Zero One is for you. It’s a young and balanced whisky with complexity and big flavours.
Crafty has aged the Marty Pye distilled Riverbourne new-make into his very first Super Cask from Master Cooper Andrew Young, it clearly demonstrates how toast/char levels can impact on flavour generation, whilst the tasty Riverbourne Distillery spirit shines through. The Blue Zero One name comes from the turqoise rings cooper Andrew Young paints on all of his casks.
This expression was a team effort, and in pure Crafty style, he’s paid tribute to the people in his life who contributed to the evolution of the whisky by putting their faces on the label. Faces include from left to right. Craig ‘Crafty’ Field, Master Cooper Andrew Young, Todd (aka The Todd), Andrea, Kathy and of course, Vatman!

Nose: Spun candy and juicy fruit chewing gum fuse cosily with sultana muffins, chocolate nougat and seared toast.
Palate: Syrupy, orange marmalade, caramel apple and a nice dose of treacle at the back end.
Finish: Medium and dry with white pepper notes and wood embers.
Overall: A welcome edition to The Craft Works independent bottling collection which may just be our favourite thus far.
