Message in a Bottle is the fifth release single malt from the Fleurieu whisky distillery in South Australia and is a celebration of Australian whisky aged in a maritime environment. It’s a whisky that speaks from a sense of place, brim full of Australian barley, Mount Lofty spring water, South Australian tawny casks and the Southern Ocean climate, the core elements of Fleurieu’s terroir.
Limited to 460 hand-numbered 700ml bottles (a real rarity for Australian whisky), distillers Gareth and Angela Andrews are kicking some major goals as they continue to conquer the Australian whisky scene and we couldn’t be happier for them.
The nose is heavily influenced by the port casks, hints of cinnamon, soy sauce, soft citrus fruitiness and lingering barley sugar flavours mixed with a hint of vanilla ice cream at the end. Message in a Bottle is all about the balance of softness, texture, malty flavours and just the right amount of oak.
