It’s fair to say that Heartwood Malt Whisky releases have been hugely successful throughout the years, having earned more than a cult following with every single expression selling out in no time. So, what does one do after so much success? We’ll let Mr H (Tim Duckett), owner and independent bottler of Heartwood, answer that question and tell the Heartgrove Story in his own words…..

“It is time for a change, for a cross over, to push the limits. It is time for something new. Now……… Now for something completely different. Our first rye whisky of Belgrove origin with a Heartwood twist. The rye spirit from PB was placed into a 240 litre, 1st fill muscat cask. It took on too much tannin over a period of 2 weeks last summer. It was decanted and mistreated as usual. The contents were later placed into a 220 litre, 1st fill sherry cask. After 2 months the cask started to leak. It was decanted a second time and mistreated again. The cask was repaired and later refilled with the original decanting. Several months later a proportion was decanted (proportion only as Mr H is still learning about rye, different beast). Now we have Heartgrove #1 at 55.2% (2 barrels, 3 decanting’s)”.

You’re in for a real treat with this release. With the master of Australian Rye whisky; Peter Bignell (owner of Belgrove Distillery) providing the rye new-make to the master of Australian Independent Bottlings; Tim Duckett – it really is a match made in whisky-heaven.
