Description:
Just like The Ghost expression, this gem sold out on pre-order and didn’t even make it on the Heartwood website. The new-make-spirit was distilled at Sawford distillery that was set up by Jane Overeem and her husband Mark Sawford. They were distilling at Sawford for two and a half years before the opportunity arose to re-purchase Overeem whisky from Australian Whisky Holdings (AWH) who agreed to a deal with them for the sale of the Overeem Single Malt Whisky trademark and whisky inventory that Jane’s father Casey, founder of Overeem sold to Lark in 2014. So, they’ve put their Sawford Distillery on hold (for now), while they power forward with Overeem.

It’ not only this very fact that makes ‘The Ghost’ a rare gem, it’s what Tim Duckett has done with the spirit he purchased that turned the expression distinctly a Heartwood, ageing the whisky in a tokay (Hungarian sweet wine) cask and Port cask, before punching it out at 62% ABV to deliver yet another beautiful example of his wares.

We were asked why such a simple name as the Ghost. One, it is “Spirit” driven and two, it will always be in the background but never to be released or “seen” as a Sawford.
