Our tasting notes
Nose: Sweet and clean with lemon peel, ‘Wrigley’s’ juicy-fruit chewing gum and vanilla butter-biscuits. Delicate honeycomb joins the aromatic soirée with the delicious scent of gardenias rounding off the nosing.
Palate: Vanilla milkshake and peach flesh accompanies the lemon peel from the nosing, where spice emerges as the palate heats up bringing nutmeg and cloves.
Finish: Warm and drying turning quite tart (in a good way). Gardenia flowers persist giving the whisky a beautifully fragrant crescendo.
John Atkins –
An adult Lemon Sherbet. With a dash of water (and it needs it at 62.9 ABV it comes in hot – powered by the sun indeed) – With a dash of water, it’s still an adult Lemon Sherbet. Delightful. On my Australian Whisky sojourn, I was getting Sherried and Ported out…and this is truly unique. I was looking for something a bit more citrusy and this answers the call, with so much more to discover. The bourbon cask does not dominate at all – no…not at all, letting that home grown barley shine. This is the only other Whisky I’ve tried other than Bruichladdich’s organic where I’ve been cognisant of the grain. It just tastes…well… fresh. I started out wondering if cask strength was the right choice, but now I see it’s the perfect choice as the whisky is as home grown as the narrative suggests – paddock to the bottle. Bottled with sunshine. Nothing in between. A winter warmer. A winter winner.
