This is the 6th release from Valero and Elisa Jimenez, owners and distillers at the Joadja distillery. They continue to raise the bar in producing stunning sherry cask, single malt whisky with a keen eye on keeping it as affordable as they possibly can.
This release is an absolute sherry bomb following on from the sold-out Batch No. 3 cask strength PX bottling. The spirit was once again laid to rest in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks that were personally sourced by the Jimenez family from their native home in the Bodegas of Andalucia, Southern Spain.
Unpeated and full of sherry goodness, these won’t last long on our virtual shelves.

Firstly, hat tip to Old Barrelhouse for great service and quick delivery. This lockdown business is thirsty work and I ordered this the wrong side of midnight on Thursday….and it was on my doorstep on Monday, before beer o’clock…and that is a no small feat in the current technocracy lite. If that is the new normal, bring it on.
Bottle delivered safely and quickly – now to the contents. From first sip, Luxurious is the word. It’s shagpile, it’s underfloor heating…big pillowy softness It’s a big warm blanket on a cold winter evening…It’s that feeling when you’re glad you remembered to put the electric blanket on. I think you get the picture. This my fourth Joadja now. This is on the sweet spectrum with sultanas. The colour alone is enough to set the taste buds off…To taste, add a teaspoon of water – Christmas pudding and delightfully brown butterscotch… It’s so much better than already excellent Batch 4 it’s lost the syrup on the back of the tongue with a wonderfully rounded palate. The sweetness all on the sides…someone more experienced than I might know what that means. (Batch 4 was IMHO an after dinner dram). This one is okay for any time of day. Is it me, the winter light, or is beer o’clock casting shorter shadows?
There’s no shadows on this beauty though. One word for Joadja….consistently complex….okay…two words. (that’s a long finish!)
