Thirty minutes north-east of Albany, at the Porongurup’s (one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges) is home to Tiger Snake Australian Whiskey owned by Limeburners/Great Southern Distillery who take inspiration from those great American Tennessee Whiskeys and Kentucky Bourbons. The distillery's Tiger Snake whiskey (note the “e”) is also the first legal sour mash whiskey of its type in Australia.
Named after one of the most venomous snakes in the world, the Tiger Snake “Rye of the Tiger” is hand distilled from a mash-bill of corn, 60% Rye and 40% Pale Malt Barely. The rye was selected from the pristine fields on the South coast of WA, which enjoy a cool Mediterranean climate. The Rye of the Tiger has been twice distilled in small batch copper pot stills representing a unique place in time as Western Australia’s first rye whiskey. Each barrel is hand bottled and numbered in keeping with our small batch tradition.
