Our tasting notes.
Think cherry cola, mint chocolate and (orange flavoured) sultana compote, all mingling on a trundle of subtle baking spices and soft oak.

Coastal Stone Sherry cask whisky is the inaugural expression of Manly Spirits First Release single malt. Matured by the sea in ex Australian Sherry/Apera casks that were sourced from South Australia and Tasmania and recoopered into re-charred 225L and 100L (first-fill) barrels. The whisky is rich and nicely balanced and should appeal to both beginners and seasoned whisky drinkers alike.
This first bottling will be followed by four more whiskies in 2022 (Pinot, Bourbon, Shiraz & Port) as part of the distillery’s ‘Element Series’ range.
The Distillery comments;
“Coastal Stone Whisky’ by Manly Spirits Co. Distillery, is an expression of the maritime element & raw nature of the Australian coast, combined with the desire to create a whisky that exceeds expectations. A refined spirit that respects our Sydney climate, created from grain to glass with no shortcuts, no strict timelines, just premium ingredients with true artisan skill.
Our whisky is captured in contemporary glass, sculptured with the eroded textures of weathered sandstone cliffs that border our coastline & sealed with a truly unique Sydney sandstone stopper.”

Okay – this is a guilt review. I had written off Manly Spirits, because…you know….Manly. Far from the mountains and rugged coastlines of Tasmania or artisanal brook lined sheds in a place far away that no-one ever goes. But Manly….that’s fish and chips and a ferry ride, not a mecca for fine Australian Whisky. I was wrong. This is as good as you’ll get. The tasting notes are spot on and as honest as the spirit itself. Unrushed they say…and it shows. Wonderful presentation, with a sandstone stopper and classy bottle…It would make a wonderful gift. But it’s not all show. It’s a great whisky to boot. Easy to drink, but enough complexity to keep you interested along the journey.
One word. Integrity. They’ve won me over, and I was the biggest skeptic. For me now…it’s Fish, Chips a ferry ride and Whisky. What a city we live in!
