Description:
This Old Kempton Stout expression was aged in an ex-stout barrel from Last Rights Brewery that once aged 12% alc beer. It’s part of Old Kempton’s rare, ‘small cask’ range that was bottled in September 2020 at 46% ABV. Non-chill-filtered with no added colouring, the whisky is made using Tasmanian barley that’s double distilled through copper pot stills making for a real whisky treat.
With only 80 bottles released – we virtually have the last remaining stock.
John Atkins (verified owner) –
Always like a Kempton because it’s always interesting and new.
We are so prone to Pavlovian conditioning that the pop of the cork sets off a set of expectations of smell, taste, mouthfeel. This is none of those. My Overton window is slammed shut – which is paradoxical as this is such a breath of fresh air. Is this Scotch in a Scottish sense? No….it is unique and distinctly Kemptonian. No surprise that it tastes like Kempton spirit with a distinctly Stout bent. Wonderfully enigmatic.
I’m reminded of whisky liqueur – not because it’s like that…because it’s whisky but not quite. I’m not doing a good job of describing this am I? But this is beyond cliche’. You will never get bored with this.
Matched with some Hoisin glazed Pork and works a treat. The Spiciness complements the subtle sweetness as support.
You’ve got to open that window and get out of your white-bread box. This is another Kempton that broadens what a whisky can be – Nay….should be. A window that opens a totally new vista. Worth a look.
