Producer’s tasting notes.
NOSE: Classic musty, leather and citrus nuances. A pleasant ‘decanter style’ in which the sweeter notes lift tall in the glass, the aromatic depth remains consistent throughout the in-glass experience.
PALATE: the hints of orange citrus stay on the mid-section of the tongue, with subtle amber notes covered with crème, the mouthfeels oils and viscosity give a thicker sipping experience with a warming sensation felt after each sip.

This is my third Riverbourne, and to be honest my least favourite. Though I loved them all. It’s sponge cake, cream and jam. A stronger alcohol burn than the others and to it’s credit something I have never experienced in any whisky – browned bananas. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of finishing off the mixing bowl when you make a banana cake….that’s it. At first I thought I was imagining it. But every time – browned bananas. I’m transported back to my childhood. For years I had my mums banana cake recipe on the back of a food stained envelope, stuffed inside the cover of the commonsense cookbook. This is what this is. Fascinating. I’m loving this meander through the Australian Whisky scene. It’s clear to me that we are not trying to emulate “Scotch”…we’re very much capturing the Australian spirit. And Riverbourne does this admirably. I very much look forward to where it might take me in the future.
