Bottling Notes

Here’s a real whisky unicorn from cult South Australian whisky producer Smith’s Angaston.

The whisky is from their 2000 vintage that was made using Franklin barley from Tasmania, malted at Cooper’s Brewery in Adelaide and then distilled at Yalumba in the Hills above Angaston, Barossa, South Australia.

The ‘new-make’ was left to mature for 12 years in French oak that previously held white wine. Then during a cask sampling in 2012, the whisky was decanted into three American oak octaves previously filled with 50-year-old tawny and matured for a further three and a half years prior to bottling.

428 bottles of this 15-year-old were released in 2016 with only a handful of bottles making it out of South Australia. The bottling was so rare and sort after that they were sold via ballot by the few liquor retailers who managed to secure one.

This offering is a museum release expression that we secured from a private, established collector and we only have the one bottle to sell.
