Tasting notes by Bill Lark (The godfather of Australian whisky)
“This golden whisky has a sweet floral nose that is soft and delicate with inviting malty notes over subtle fruits and toffee. Beautifully balanced palate. Sweet and creamy upfront, building across the palate with vanilla and marzipan bouncing around each other, before settling long, luscious and with that perfect sense of alcohol.
A long finish reminiscent of a chewy milk bottle lolly. A well-crafted whisky released at a perfect pitch of alcohol, nose and palate.”

Bottling Notes
This six-year-old single malt whisky, distilled at what is now known as the infamous Nant distillery (under the old owners), is a marriage of two Nant barrels, a French oak ex-tawny and American oak ex-bourbon. The expression is the brainchild of Harry van der Woude, who boldly visited the Nant distillery a few years before the unforgiveable ‘Nant investor scheme rip-off’ and left with his 2 full barrels of ageing spirit that he invested in and rightly owned.
Fast forward 6 years and Harry (with the help of friends) has now released his very own IB single malt whisky from these 2 ageing barrels. The name “Straight Batt” is a cheeky reminder to “always play life with a Straight Batt”. A cheeky and rightful dig at the previous owner of Nant….. Wise words indeed.
John Atkins –
Can you be hit for a six with a straight bat? I was. This is everything that is Tasmania Whisky to me. Smooth, voluptuous mouth feel. An engaging sweetness. I’m a noob (as my children love to tell me) so I’m unaware of the controversy behind this drop, but I can tell you that there is life in cricket after the sandpaper incident as I’m sure there is a second innings to play for here. (I recommend the Amazon prime documentary – The Test if you haven’t seen it and like your cricket) Good things come from adversity…and Straight Batt is a one to add to the list.
