The Aisling Whiskycrafter ‘Preimhe Shiraz Baraille’ Single Malt Whisky 700ml 50%

Our tasting notes.
There’s an exquisite, damp, barnyard funk that interlaces the entire tasting experience of this whisky. The earthy timbre (not timber 😉), is so wonderfully subtle, weaving through aromas of home-made rum balls, juicy blackberries, stewed figs and a touch of ginger on the nose. The palate starts a little thin, but time in the glass tempers the viscosity via bursts of red ‘Delicious’ apples and orange jelly crystals, with the Shiraz DNA pulling Haig’s dark-chocolate pastilles and blueberry pie into the soiree. The 50% ABV works nicely for a medium finish that welcomes soft toasted oak, warming doses of eucalyptus and white pepper before bringing back those familiar notes of barnyard funk from the nosing.

Final thoughts
The earthy bones of this whisky sets it apart from many of the Aussie Shiraz casks currently on the market. It offers another twisting layer of complexity and at an RRP of $149, it’s a winner.
