With a limited release of only 80 bottles, we managed to secure a handful from Steve Hughes, distiller and director of the Grove Distillery.
This Grove single malt whisky is the 11th release made with single malted Australian barley – Aged in a unique combination of ex-Port / Peated Whisky cask (Custom 50L half French, Half American oak) and finished in an ex-Sherry / Bourbon cask (Custom 50L American oak). It’s been cut back to 49.6%alc as opposed to the cask strength release which is 58%alc
You may note the label calls it a single malt, single grain whisky
(a conundrum indeed in our opinion. ?)
Colour: Rich mahogany, crimson-amber tone.
Nose: Burnt toffee, cherry, subtle peat and almond.
Palate: This whisky offers a powerful blend of complexity, depth and spice. Orange, apricot, clove, cinnamon, wood and suede, roasted malt with surprise smoke finish. Then long warm spice lingers on the palate. Smoke undertones through the intricate layers for a final finish.
