Bottled for the Kinko Liquor store in Japan, the Suntory Houga is a blended whiskey that was released by Suntory on 01.09.2015. Extremely rare among Japanese whiskies, it showcases the blending magic of Suntory Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo. Only 500 bottles were released worldwide making this a premium investment grade whisky which should appreciate nicely over time.
It’s made from the oldest Yamazaki single malt whiskies as well as grain whisky from Chita, and Suntory’s very own Hakushu whiskey with the exact composition is a closely guarded secret. The image on the bottle is of a golden Phoenix that sits on the roof of the “Phoenix Hall” at the Byōdō-in-Temple in Kyoto, Japan. The Phoenix Hall was built in 1053 (under the name Amida-Halle) and since then it has been a profound area of Buddhist faith and a symbol of humility and unconditional devotion for many of the Japanese people.
This whisky is pure Suntory at the top of their game paying homage to a place of reverence while blending one of the rarest expressions in the entire Suntory stable. It also comes with the original mint wooden box that has become a rarity as many of them were destroyed in the packaging process. A true collector’s item!
