Tasting Notes: peatedperfection.com
Nose: Masses of peat & salt, some herbal, oaky sweetness. A little heat, even with water. More vanilla sweetness comes through with time in the glass. Not the most complex ardbeg nose, but makes a big impression.
Taste: Huge, creamy, herbal peat. Definitely a peaty Supernova explosion! Salty, sea air, some hot smoked fish, tarred ropes and old grease. Some herbal and vanilla sweetness from the oak towards the end, and a little heat reminding you how young & strong this stuff is.
Finish: Goes on for miles! Miles of never-ending peat, that is. Some more herbs and vanilla, and a hint of thin honey right at the end. One of the peatiest, and longest, finishes I’ve experienced. Not for the faint of heart!

Bottling Notes
The expression was one of the most anticipated whisky releases of the year back in 2010 following on from the Supernova 2009 first release that won ‘Scotch Whisky of the Year’ in a certain “Whisky Bible”. The mere suggestion of her arrival had peat lovers chomping at the proverbial bog to get their fill.
The Supernova 2010, is one of the peatiest whisky Ardbeg makes coming in at over 100ppm (phenols per million). When explaining the differences between this release and the inaugural 2009 expression, Ardbeg have put it simply: “The new 2010 expression is out of this world – even deeper, stronger and earthier than the award-winning 2009 edition, this year’s release also boasts a slightly higher ABV at 60.1% compared to the 59.6% on last year’s release”.
