Description
Here’s a delightful Speyside entry from Wm Cadenhead’s that will appeal to a broad spectrum of whisky drinkers. Using spirit from the Glentauchers distillery, the whisky was matured for 14 years in a combination of a sherry butt and bourbon firkins resulting in a light and fruity dram with notes of poached peers and chocolate fondue. Independent releases from Glentauchers are a far and few between and we’ve become big fans as the majority of indie releases we’ve sampled have been an absolute revelation. Tasty stuff indeed!
About Glentauchers Distillery.
Glentauchers is located on the road to Craigellachie distillery, on the edge of the Craigellachie Forest and some four miles from the town of Keith. The process water for the distillery is drawn from the Rosarie Burn (via a large reservoir). Glentauchers has long since been associated with blends; it is a large component of Ballantines, Teachers and Chivas Regal.
Interesting Fact
Glentauchers whisky was once known as a silent malt, a throwback name to their style of whisky in the past when they used column stills rather than pot stills. It wasn’t at all popular so they quickly returned to their traditional pot stills and have been knocking it out of the proverbial park ever since.
