Description
Here’s a fantastic age statement from the bountiful Speyside region that was laid to rest in 1995 in 2 bourbon hogsheads and then bottled at cask strength in 2018 representing great value for your hard-earned dollars. Glen Spey predominantly supplies J&B Rare with all its malt whisky so there’s rarely any official or IB’s coming out of the distillery. As with all Cadenhead expressions, the whisky is non-chill filtered with no added colouring.
About Glen Spey Distillery.
Glen Spey distillery is located in Rothes, Moray at the centre of the Speyside whisky producing area of Scotland. The distillery was built in 1878 by James Stuart & Co. under the name ‘Mill of Rothes’ and was originally an oatmeal mill as founder James Stuart was a corn merchant before he ventured into the whisky world. Glen Spey (along with Glenlossie and Strathmill) continues to use ‘purifiers’. Purifiers act as small condensers, returning a proportion of the alcohol vapours back to the pot to be re-distilled. So, this would increase the amount of ‘reflux’ within the pot stills. This results in a lighter spirit.
