Description
Here’s another affordable age statement from WM Cadenhead’s that was matured for 25 years in 2 bourbon hogsheads and then bottled in 2017 at cask strength of 51% ABV. The Speyside distillery is quite new to the Scottish whisky landscape having only been built in 1987 making this 25-year-old expression quite the collectable.
As with all Cadenhead expressions, the whisky is non-chill filtered with no added colouring.
About Speyside Distillery.
A small, hand-built, artisan distillery nestled amongst the foothills of the beautiful Cairngorm Mountains, still hand distilling in time-honoured traditions and widely acknowledged to be amongst the prettiest of all Scotland’s distilleries. Originally a barley mill and croft dating back to the 1700’s, it closed in 1965 and over the next 25 years it was slowly and lovingly converted into a single malt distillery by a stone mason. Alex Fairlie/ The building was completed in 1987 and started producing spirit in December 1990.
The distillery draws its water from the Spey River tributary -The River Tromie, whose waters are diverted into the old mill lade which originally powered the waterwheel for the old mill. The distillery is small and uniquely the full production is housed inside the one building.
