The eagerly- awaited Glenfiddich 21-year-old Winter Storm is bottle number 3 in the Glenfiddich Experimental Series coming after the Project IPA and Project XX expressions.
This Winter Storm release was inspired by Malt Master, Brian Kinsman’s trip to the freezing vineyards near Niagara, Canada where he witnessed grapes picked by moonlight in freezing temperatures to produce sweet Ice-wine using French oak casks. He then used these casks that previously held Canadian ice-wine to finish his whisky, making for a unique dram indeed.
As Brian Kinsman comments.
“Only the rarer whiskies, those aged for 21 years, could cope with the extra Ice-wine intensity. Having more tannins, extracted from years in oak, these malts brought out a uniquely fresh lychee note instead of being swamped by sweetness.”
Photos don’t do this set any justice. It’s a spectacularly designed and robust set with double-doored casing and magnetic enclosures that showcases the snow-white bottle beautifully well.

NOSE. A bouquet of tropical fruit and candied sweets are perfectly balanced with underlying wine notes.
PALATE. Soft sweet notes reminiscent of candied fruit and Turkish delight develop into flavours of mouth-watering lychee. The fusion of sweet flavours is soon met with a rich drying sensation from the ice-wine.
FINISH. Short and crisp.
