Bottling Notes
Now here’s a little gem from the Glengoyne distillery with a real Aussie twist.
This discontinued 16-year-old was finished in casks from the Glenguin estate winery in Australia’s Hunter Valley (our very own backyard) 😉. The Aussie winery was established by one of Australia’s 15 Masters of Wine ambassadors, Lord Robin Tedder in 1988. The expression was released as a tribute to the renaming of Glenguin Distillery in Scotland to Glengoyne Distillery 100 years ago, as well as the historical links between the distillery and the Tedder family.
In the Autumn of 2007, 20 Shiraz casks were filled with 16yo Glengoyne. Of these, ten were chosen after careful weekly monitoring. Seen as a world authority on the Shiraz (Syrah) grape, Robin Tedder helped to decide the timing of the final bottling.
Upon release, Ian Macleod Distillers Marketing Director, Iain Weir commented:
“Glengoyne Glenguin Shiraz Cask Finish completes the circle on a fantastic history between Glengoyne Distillery and the Tedder family, a link from old world to new that has lasted over 100 years and continues to the present day. We are delighted that the exceptional quality and packaging of this unique whisky befits the high standards the Tedders have always set in public life,”
