Bottling Notes
This whisky came on the market in 2010 as the second release of a set of three bottles known as the Inga Saga Trilogy (Earl Magnus edition). The bottle is hand-made with natural dents and air bubbles in the glass – based on a 150-year-old (circa 1870) Highland Park bottle along with the old (replica) front label. The distillery delved into their archives and used old footage to get the design as close as possible.
This whisky is dedicated to a former Earl who was elevated to sainthood after his canonisation following his murder by his cousin, Haakon (in which the 3rd and final bottle of the series is named after). Magnus was one of the six canonised Norsemen born in the 11th and 12th centuries when the Orkney Islands belonged to Norway.
This lightly peated vatting was drawn from casks laid down in 1998, primarily Spanish oak was used, of which 20% was first fill with a yield of 11,994 bottles at 55%alc. Saint Magnus is presented in a robust open wooden gift box with brass fittings that reflects the Saint Magnus saga.
