Tasting notes thewhiskyjug.com
Nose: Pears and apples bowl out of the glass followed by notes of cinnamon, honey, peat and vanilla rich spirity malt with a light bit of bubble-gum. I’ve never encountered bubble-gum in any Lagavulin I’ve had, but that’s the thing about young whisky; it reveals characteristics that might get covered up the older it gets.
Palate: Orchard fruit and cinnamon again lead the pack followed by notes of peat, vanilla, malt, saline, white pepper and a bit of bubble-gum. I’m fascinated by this bubble-gum note. I usually get a cloying bubble-gum note with French Oak, but everything I’ve read about the Lagavulin 8 says it’s mostly ex-bourbon casks. So interesting.
Finish: Long peaty road with twists of vanilla, malt, orchard fruit and bubble-gum.
