Official tasting notes.
“A captivating fusion of balsamic and exotic notes. Initially, one is greeted with the presence of tropical woods, including sandalwood, incense, menthol, and cedarwood, evoking a rich and aromatic atmosphere. Following closely are tropical fruits and spices, featuring coconut, vanilla, mango, and cinnamon, which enhance the complexity of the aroma. On the palate, the experience is intense and aromatic, with a pronounced bitterness derived from the wood tannins. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, allowing the myriad flavours to linger and unfold, leaving a lasting impression”

Description
With a yield of 654 bottles, this rum is the story of two casks.
The first vintage of the blend was distilled in Brazil in 2011 at ‘Epris Distillery’ in a column still consisting of cane juice and molasses and then aged for 6 years using ex-Amburana (Brazilian Oak). The 2nd cask was distilled in El Salvador in 2008 from a ‘restricted’ (secret) distillery in a column still using molasses with part maturation occurring in the tropics in an ex-bourbon cask.
The two casks were then sent to Scotland for the remainder of its ageing in her cool and consistent climate. This process is all done under Samaroli’s watchful eyes and palate, and the result of this double maturation is a rum with zero heat and/or volatiles that are basically aged out of the spirit with the additional Scottish slumber. This double country/maturation is done for all Samaroli rums, and it’s what sets them apart from the majority of their rum contemporaries. It’s an incredibly expensive process, however the results warrant the time it takes for release.
Samaroli has a reputation for producing fantastic blends as they’ve mastered the art of reduction over many years with this expression hitting the sweet spot at 50% ABV
Samaroli comments:
“Here, two different barrels have given life to a rum with a perfectly balanced symmetry, unique to us. A perfect distillation making the rum dense, rich and with a higher specific weight. It was enough to add the Scottish climate and the woods in which it was aged to generate an articulated and fascinating whole”
Interesting Fact:
What’s the difference between Rum and Rhum?
It’s quite simple, the difference between Rum and Rhum Agricole is that RUM is always made from Molasses (an industrial by product of sugar production) while Rhum Agricole is made DIRECTLY from freshly pressed sugarcane juice.
About Epris Distillery
Epris distillery is located in São Roque near São Paulo, Brazil. Back in 1999 the distillery made Rum for Bacardi and other types of alcoholic beverages. Their entire distillate is made in a column still. Today Epris has stopped distilling rum, choosing to focus on making fermented rice and Sake! Who would have thought!
