Samaroli’s Caol Ila 2018 is a peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky, distilled at the renowned Caol Ila distillery on the Sound of Islay. The coastal maltings behind this whisky shape the smoky, maritime character that single malt drinkers seek out: salt air and gentle peat smoke, distinctly Islay.
The whisky spent a short time in bourbon before moving to a Madeira cask, where it matured for most of its life.
Bottled by Samaroli in 2025, it’s released as a limited-edition bottling, presented at natural colour and non-chill-filtered for full flavour and texture. The Madeira cask finish sets this expression apart, swapping the usual bourbon-cask citrus notes for richer, fortified-wine sweetness and deeper complexity.
Madeira wine casks are prized around the world for the rich, complex character they bring to whatever they age next. Crafted from oak and seasoned for years with fortified Madeira wine, these casks develop deep layers of caramel, dried fruit, and nutty warmth that transfer beautifully into spirits like whisky, rum, and brandy.
Rich and elegant where sweet peat smoke meets candied orange peel, grilled pineapple, a a touch of maritime salinity. Nutty notes of toasted almonds and smoky toffee blend with warm spices, dried apricots and spiced raisins.
Layers of smoked sea salt, burnt liquorice root and walnut cake add depth. The finish is long and evolving with smoked fruit, dark chocolate and citrus zing. A luscious whisky with enduring complexity from the Madeira cask finish.
