First released on the 30th of April 2023 for the collaboration event between Whisky Uncovered/TBWC and Big Sam Young’s ‘S’more bistro’ in Castlecrag NSW, guests were able to have first crack at purchasing this 23-year-old beauty that was laid down in 1995 in a single refill butt before it was offered for general sales if any stock remains available.
TBWC tells us about the label:
“A Speyside distillery that opened its doors in 1975, with much of its output making its way into blends. Allt-á-Bhainne sounds a bit like House of Pain, and it literally means ‘River of Milk’. Once we clocked these facts, we obviously had to put them on our label, along with the bovine embodiment of The Whisky Squad!”.
About Allt-a-Bhainne Distillery:
The Allt-A-Bhainne distillery was founded in Speyside in 1975 due to the then booming Scotch Whisky industry calling for more spirit to be made. The distillery was built to supply bulk whisky to the Chivas blended Scotch whiskies with the distillery offering a modern open plan unit, one of the first designed to be run by one man per shift. The spirit stills have long slender necks with boil balls adding reflux and designed to produce a light, estery malt.
Rarely seen bottled as a single malt, independent bottlings have been the only way to get your hands it.
