Description
The 2025 Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey builds on previous releases with a rye-forward mash bill. Its bold American whiskey character has proven super popular with bourbon enthusiasts across Australia. Furthermore, the distillery finishes select fully matured spirit in toasted, uncharred French oak barrels, an important step – that enhances the rye spice and adds delicate complexity. The premium oak is sourced from France’s Vosges region, then air-dried and seasoned for 24 months before precise toasting.
It is crafted in Kentucky using the traditional Sour Mash method, where a portion of previously distilled mash, known as “setback” is carried into each new batch to build consistency and layered flavour. This process mirrors, in principle, the Solera-style system, helping create greater depth and balance across every release.
Why The Name Shenk’s?
Shenk’s Homestead Distillery Sour Mash Whiskey pays tribute to historic American whiskey pioneer John Shenk, who established a Kentucky distillery in 1753 that later evolved into what became known as Michter’s in the 20th century. It carries strong heritage appeal for collectors and bourbon enthusiasts seeking authentic American whiskey with deep historical roots.
