Description
Designated as a ‘Bonded’ whiskey, the Wild Turkey American Spirit is Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell’s favourite Wild Turkey sipper and with a great back-story to boot!
The distillery tells us that Eddie Russell, son of Master Distiller Jimmy Russell discovered a number of 15-year-old barrels that could not be accounted for. After much investigation, it was found that these barrels were being stored in an old warehouse called ‘Stone Castle’ that Wild Turkey was no longer using. When sampled, the bourbon blew Jimmy and Eddie away and was reminiscent of the ‘Private’ bourbons Jimmy Russell was exposed to when he first came to the Wild Turkey distillery in 1954.
The bourbon-whiskey is elegantly presented with a wood topped cork and gold leaf appliqué to highlight the unique design. A commemorative coin’ is also affixed to every bottle as a homage to past limited edition Wild Turkey bottles.
What does ‘Bottled in Bond’ mean?
Here’s an abbreviated definition courtesy of bourbon historian Michael Veach.
“The U. S. Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897 states that all of the whiskey in the bottle comes from the same distillery, made in the same season, aged for at least four years in a government bonded warehouse, and bottled at 100 proof with nothing other than water added to the whiskey”.
