Bottling Notes
Already a sell-out at the distillery, the Backwoods team have used three varieties of Australian grown and malted barley. It’s a vatting of three 100L casks – French Oak ex-Muscat, American Oak ex-whisky/wine, French Oak ex-wine. The distillery decided to release two different ABV’s for this Batch #3 @ this 55% alc and another @ 46% alc (also available on our virtual shelves).
John Atkins (verified owner) –
First thing that hits you is the colour. There’s a reddish tinge in bottle and almost orangeish in the glass…half way to lucozade…it’s non chill filtered…flavour, strength all there – A bit of smoke in the finish.
Even without checking out Google Maps, I’m immediately reminded of Yack creek (charred red wine caskNo. 4). Thick luscious legs run down glass even minutes later. Anyone that says that locality doesn’t play into the taste of a whiskey have frankly lost their way. You don’t need a GPS to tell you you’ve arrived at Nirvana here.
And they haven’t just got lucky – This is expertly put together from three different local malts (Sweet, earthy and honey in profile) There is an attention to detail and nuance. It’s a home cooked meal in a landscape of fast food take-away that will have you coming back for seconds.
