Individually numbered
Own a piece of Australian distilling history with one of the oldest age-statement whiskies ever produced on our sun-drenched shores. This magical 17-year-old whisky is in fact a Tasmanian Single Malt (Cask 13) which was originally distilled and vatted at Sullivans Cove Tasmania, then bottled and individually numbered with great care at Corowa Distilling Co. It spent 16 years in a bourbon barrel before being finished for 12 months in an ex-Sherry cask yielding approx. 450 x 500ml bottles.
The story of the Bastard Barrel goes something like this……
There was movement late one night at an abandoned flour mill in Corowa, NSW, which resulted in an orphaned barrel of whisky appearing at the doorstep of the discarded mill. This was no ordinary barrel of whisky, for it mysteriously made its 1000km journey north over land and sea, all the way from the Sullivans Cove Distillery in Cambridge Tasmania to Corowa, NSW.
Then, by luck and the grace of the whisky gods, inside the abandoned mill was Master Distiller (Beau Schilg) tinkering away at his craft who proceeded to rescue the poor ‘Bastard Barrel’ giving it a loving home at what is now known as the Corowa Distilling Co.
This bottling has the potential to become a real investment grade whisky.

Quality spirit and a very good introduction to what Australia can produce. Need less to say w e have moved on and gained valuable lessons in the interim years.

Probably one of the best drams I’ve had in 2018. You can’t go wrong with Sullivan’s Cove, that additional year of Apera cask maturation develops the complexity of this whisky even more. Overall it’s such a wholesome juice that I went on to purchase a few more bottles from the distillery.
