Bottling Notes
The fourth release from Derwent Distilling Co.
Presented as a single cask expression matured in a 20L Sherry cask unlike any other.
The spirit is quintessentially Robbie’s, having done his own wash runs, spirit runs and cuts at the Redlands distillery to determine the type of spirit he wanted.
John Atkins (verified owner) –
This is the “Where’s Wally” of Whisky. You know it’s there somewhere…but you can’t put your finger on it.
This is to be applauded for no colouring and no cold filtration. But as I love a Kempton, I’m confused why this doesn’t hit home for me (as it’s distilled and matured at Kempton).
I’m being a little harsh. I find I’m reaching for it….as a preference over 4 other whiskey’s for my Friday afternoon dram….it’s good…I’m spoilt, but 46% just seems a bit mandatory. I just feel there’s more there. It’s the hidden potential that’s frustrating, rather than the drop itself.
A little sharp, with butterscotch, (hint of background smoke?) later a touch of aniseed, but really it could be anything….It just doesn’t stand out. It’s hiding in there somewhere.
I get the sense that once it decides what it will be when it grows up…it could very well succeed. But for now I can’t find it, until it finds itself.
