Our tasting notes.
Incredible balance – The viscosity, the dark fruits, the spirit to cask union, the old-school Lark funk, tannins working in absolute harmony, the drying Fino notes, the velvety oloroso…… My, my, what a treat!! This open bottle is going to stay in our cabinets, far, far away from our whisky-befuddled mates. We’re never protective of our whiskies, they’re opened to be shared, but this Heartwood……. THIS Heartwood!!!

Description:
Now here’s a colossal whisky from the House of Duckett that has age, pedigree, royalty, history and genius coursing through its DNA. The history of this expression could arguably date back to 1992, when Tim Duckett found himself working side by side with Lyn Lark during a government appointed project. He got chatting with Lyn and her husband Bill about their plans to start making whisky. This meeting would prove the catalyst that would eventually turn independent whisky bottling in Australia on its head some 20 years later when Tim Duckett made his debut sale in 2012 with his Mt Wellington whisky expression.
This whisky was distilled by the trailblazing Lyn Lark back in January 2012, in the days when Lark spirit was revered for its excellence. Titled ‘The Best of Times’ it’s a dedication of sorts to Lyn, who Tim attributes as his inspiration to take on independent bottlings. It’s also the very last Heartwood expression to be released using Lark new-make spirit, and considering Heartwood has 19,000+ litres of whisky resting in their bond store – this marks the end of an era.
Tim worked his magic maturing the Lark spirit for seven and a half years in a Fino sherry cask before re-racking the whisky for an additional two and a half years in a 60-year-old Spanish Oloroso sherry cask. The result, absolutely sublime – right up there with some of the finest Heartwood’s we’ve ever sampled. So, when Tim says “….this may be the best whisky we have ever produced”, it’s not spin, it’s a fact in our opinion. No wonder the entire allocation was snapped up by members of Heartwood’s Barking Mad club meaning it didn’t see the light of day on Heartwood’s website.
Tim has sent a handful of bottles our way for our loyal supporters as well and we’re offering them up at one per customer.
Tim Duckett comments
“The Lyn Lark distilled 10-year-old, Heartwood …… Reminiscent of the sherried Scottish whiskies of the late 70’s and early 80’s..”
